STM has received an order for the supply of a vertical mill
Swiss Tower Mills Minerals AG (STM) has received an order for the supply of a VRM3000F-700 mill for the second stage of the Nui Phao Mining tungsten project in Vietnam. The contract was signed in the first quarter of 2022.
The scope of work of STM includes the design, manufacture and supply of one vertical regrinding mill (VRM) with a 700 kW drive and a flexible control system. The regrinding site will process up to 64 tons of flotation concentrate per hour. The compact size of the VRM mill allows it to be placed within the limited area of the existing concentrator building. Delivery will take place in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Swiss Tower Mills to supply the world's largest mixing mills for a copper project in Russia
Swiss Tower Hills Minerals has received an order for the supply of four VRM50000-6500 mills for a new large copper project in Russia.
The scope of work under the contract signed in the second quarter of 2021 includes the design, manufacture and supply of four vertical regrinding mills (VRM), each of which is equipped with a 6500 kW adjustable speed drive and a flexible control system.
Each additional regrinding site will process up to 500 t/h of flotation concentrate.
These mills will become the largest and most powerful mixing mills in the world.
Deliveries will take place in 2022 and 2023
Last month, Swiss Tower Mills Minerals announced the signing of a contract for the supply of a vertical mill with mixing VPM10 for the second stage of the Navachab gold mine in Namibia.

Swiss Tower Mills to supply vertical mixing mill for Navacha gold Mine in Namibia
Swiss Tower Mills Minerals AG (STM) has signed a contract for the supply of a vertical mixing mill VPM10 for the second stage of the Navachab gold mine in Namibia. The contract was signed at the end of 2020. In the third quarter of 2021, the mill successfully passed factory acceptance tests (FAT) in Villach, Austria.
Navachab is a gold mine of QKR Namibia Navachab Gold Mine (Pty) Ltd with a low gold content in the ore. The mine is located in the province of Erongo in Namibia, 190 km from the capital, Windhoek. Navchab, the oldest gold mine in Namibia, got its name from the nearby Navachab farm, where a gold deposit was discovered.
STM's scope of work includes the design and delivery of one vertical mixing mill VPM10, which uses a ceramic grinding medium. The mill is equipped with a flexible control system and has a 1600 kW drive. The VPM mill will grind 140 t/h of gold concentrate from 2 mm to 75 microns (P70). The VPM mill has a number of unique advantages, such as low specific grinding energy (SGE), high energy efficiency, a simple technological scheme (without recirculation loads) and a flexible system for regulating the grinding process taking into account fluctuations in technological parameters. Important attention was paid to ensuring safe and fast maintenance. Delivery was carried out in the third quarter of 2021; commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022.

Swiss Tower Mills Minerals supports the Coalition for Energy Efficiency of Mineral Crushing Processes
CEEC STM Energy Efficiency Factory Acceptance Test 50000L Mill VRM50000 390x260
Swiss Tower Mills Minerals AG (STM) has become a new sponsor supporting the work of the non-profit Coalition for Energy Efficiency of Mineral Milling Processes (CEEC).
According to Ralph Hesemann, Managing Director of STM, the company has successfully applied the technology of vertical grinding of industrial minerals for processing plants.
"The introduction of new technologies in the mining industry is usually a slow process," Hesemann said. Cooperation with this respected independent organization, which promotes the exchange of information on the latest achievements in the field of effective grinding strategies, will be mutually beneficial."
The Swiss company STM developed a vertical regrinding mill (VRM) and launched it on the mining and processing industry market in 2012. Since then, the company has supplied mixing mills to enterprises in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. For fine and ultrafine grinding, the mills are supplied through an exclusive partner Metso:Outotec under the HIGmill brand. For the purposes of traditional grinding, STM offers customers a direct supply of mills with mixing – Vertical Power Mill™ (VPM), with a feed material size of up to 6 mm. Just like VRM mills, these mills use the principle of multi-stage grinding, which provides significant energy savings. The capacity of VPM mills varies from 700 kW to 12,500 kW, they have high productivity and allow you to achieve up to 40% energy savings. In addition, VPM vertical mills occupy a small area, and STM positions them as a promising alternative to ball mills in HPGR circuits, as well as to expand the productivity of existing production facilities.
Energy saving is achieved through the use of grinding rotors and stators of the original design and vertical multi-stage mill configuration, providing high grinding intensity even at low circumferential speed. As a result, the mills have high efficiency, compactness and allow increasing the degree of mineral extraction during enrichment. The specific energy consumption is 200-300 kW/m3, and the operating circumferential speed is in the range from 6 to 12 m/s, depending on the application and the capacity of the mills.
CEEC Director Chris Rule noted that the use of energy-efficient mixing mills is a step forward to the development of production in accordance with the principles of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG), and to achieve zero emissions.
One of the first HIGmill mills put into operation in 2015 was a 700 kW mill for additional regrinding of copper concentrate at the Kevica mine in Finland. Several articles have been published about the energy efficiency and technological characteristics of this mill, including an article by Outotec, presented at the Comminution Capetown 2016 exhibition, as well as an article 'A Review of Published Full-Scale Stirred Mill Results', by Michael Larson, Molycop, USA, presented at the SAG 2019 conference.
This grinding technology will also be applied at the Iron Bridge Magnetic Project in Western Australia. A joint venture between Fortescue Metals Group and Formosa Steel IB Pty Ltd will build the world's first processing plant without horizontal mills. The technological scheme of the factory includes a two-stage HPGR circuit feeding a total of 10 HIGmill mills.
Rule said that the technology of grinding in mixing mills has already proven itself for several decades in the processing of industrial minerals, including ceramics, paints and in the pharmaceutical industry.
"We are grateful to STM for applying this technology to the mining and processing industry, offering enterprises an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to high—intensity ball grinding," Rule said.
"Joining STM to CEEC as a sponsor means that we will have more opportunities to learn and talk about alternative grinding methods. It is thanks to the support of our sponsors over the past 10 years that CEEC has the opportunity to inform the industrial community about the improvements achieved, which will help the heads of mining enterprises to solve the tasks of reducing energy consumption, emissions and reducing the overall impact of their activities on the environment."
Hesemann said that with ore quality declining, energy-efficient milling is becoming an increasingly important aspect to improve profitability.
"We are proud of the role our technology plays in reducing the environmental impact of processing plants, while reducing capital and operating costs and increasing profitability.
"As a sponsor of CEEC, we will be able to share achievements in this field more widely, as well as learn from the experience of the international community and industry experts within CEEC, through its events and online resources."
